Day 6: Wall forms July 10, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Today they began to put the wall forms in place.  We are so close to getting concrete that I can taste it!

The walls begin to take shape.

The construction site looks busy – a far cry from the mud of the past!

Day 5: Solid footings July 9, 2013 at 6:30 PM

Today the footings were poured.  This is in prep for pouring the basement walls.  You can now see exactly where the walls will be, and you can start to imagine what the rooms will look like.

The footings are poured, and look impressive!

Day 2: The hole is done July 6, 2013 at 6:21 PM

I am not sure about you, but I figured that house holes take a while to do.  If you thought the same thing then we were both wrong!  That hole was done before the end of the second day.  And it was not a rough hole.  The walls were deep and straight, and the floor very level.  Amazing stuff!

The results of the digging.  Quite impressive!

Janele inspects the progress!  Let’s get going!

Day 1: Houston, we have a hole! July 5, 2013 at 8:16 PM

The big day has finally come – ground breaking day.  We finally have a hole!!!

Janele and I watched as “Mike Mulligan and Mary Ann” dug the hole for our new home.  It was quite exciting, at least as far as holes go!

You will notice that I am now numbering these posts.  The number will represent the day since construction started, beginning with Day 1 today!  We are hoping that the house will be done in 90 to 120 days.

The “SNORT” digs us a hole!

Mirror mode!!! June 20, 2013 at 3:35 PM

Ever played Mario Cart?  Ever unlocked everything all the way up to Mirror Mode?  Then did you play Mirror Mode?  It is really cool, but everything is backwards and confusing.  That is what happened to us today.

We found out from the developer today that the house plan needs to be flipped in order to accommodate the driveway plan.  So everything that was left if now right, and everything that was right is now left.

At first, we thought this was a bad thing.  But then we started to realize that this was actually a good thing:

  • The “house” side (as opposed to the “garage” side) now faces the existing portion of Montgomery Circle.  This is the house’s “good side” and it will now be more visible to people as they approach the house.
  • The front door is now more visible, or at least less hidden by the garage.
  • The Scrungeon now faces the approaching road, allowing Janele to see who is coming (and hide if necessary?!?).
  • Added in August: This flip makes the microwave position work out!!!  I will explain later!!!

The new plans… in Mirror Mode!
